In our humble submission, spirituality is a search for meaning and purpose in life, a sense of connection with others, and a transcendence of self, resulting in a sense of inner peace and guiding one to attain enlightenment through fulfilment of one’s sixth sense (wisdom). Spirituality is the ultimate science of spirit. The spirit within every human can only be understood through spiritual sciences. Religion and culture are simply branches of spirituality. It is therefore crucial that one must first comprehend the principle of spirituality so that the true philosophy of life is better cognised. The concept of spirituality, in our understanding can best be grasped by exploring the following subject matters:
1. Inner Travel When mind, body and spirit are in harmony, happiness is the natural result. When inner divinity is realised, outer calamities would cease to be a distraction. Spirituality is an integral part of a person's overall development. No outer transformation can be achieved without inner transformation. It enhances discriminative power. Inward journey transcends life beyond pain and suffering. Those with spiritual guidance face life in an optimistic manner. It moulds good values, allowing one to understand the true meaning of life.
2. Code of Conducts Through spirituality one will effortlessly understand the heritage and the rich culture we possess as Indians and the responsibility to keep it alive. Culture is our way of life. It includes our values, beliefs, customs, languages, and traditions. Our culture measures our quality of life, our vitality, and the health of our society. Through culture we develop a sense of belonging, personal and cognitive growth, and the ability to empathize and relate to each other. Culture provides the code of conduct that nurtures tolerance and acceptance and allows for humanity to thrive with mutual respect for each other amidst the diversity in a multi-racial country.
3. Yoga Spirituality and yoga are closely related. The element of yoga in spirituality heals many health issues without medicine and improves physical health. It reduces risk of chronic diseases. It is a natural therapy that makes one healthy, youthful, and beautiful. A healthy body sets the stage for day-to-day well-being and determines how well we age. It boosts positive energies and improves quality of life. Yoga's incorporation of healthy diet, meditation and breathing creates mental clarity and calmness, increases body awareness, relieves stress patterns, relaxes the mind, centres attention, and sharpens concentration. These are attributes of a balanced and blissful life.
